Here's a little writing on a day at Tio Pil's Place!
Let's Go Bonefishing

Bonnie and Clive are on their third day at Ambergris Caye and are strolling downtown along the beach enjoying the coolness of the coral sand oozing through their toes. As they stop at Estels by the Sea, they enjoy a succulent fish dish with a few drinks of Caribbean Rum. After dinner, Estela asks what they have done so far during their stay at Lilies Hotel. "Oh, we have enjoyed Tio Pil's and Lilys fine cuisine and we have also enjoyed a day at the marine reserve of Hol Chan," remarks Clive. "And I have had my good dose of sun tan," interjects Bonnie with a smile. Estela asks if they had done any fishing and they say they are planning to go to the Turneffe Islands and do some fishing there. Once Estela learns that they are fishing enthusiasts, she recommends that the do some bonefishing.

Delighted of the prospects of bonefishing, the enthused couple calls on Wilber Marin who has 20 years experience in guiding and who is recommended as one of San Pedro's best fly line tour guides. At 7 a.m. Wilber picks them up at the Tio Pil's Place's pier and they are off to the flats in the San Pedro lagoon. It's a smooth ride and Clive takes several photos of Wilber's smooth ride along the river of skiffs moving to and fro, mangroves, and frigate birds feeding behind the boat of an early fisherman already returning home with his catch.

Soon they are at the flats and Wilber steps on the bow of the skiff, takes his pole and starts leading the skiff, stern ahead. He gives Bonnie and Clive some instructions in casting the fly line and how to spot the school of bonefish. Bonnie is now standing on one of the benches in the skiff scanning the surroundings 25 feet away. Soon she sees the ripples of a feeding school of fish and Wilber smiles as she shouts out, "There they are! Both fishermen cast in their direction and pull In just as Wilber has shown and demonstrated. At the fourth cast, Clive jerks his rod and the fight is on. Man against bonefish with a 4-pound test line. Several times the fish is only 10 feet away from being pulled out and in, and several times it jerks away reeling out as much as 200 feet of line. Boy, does that add to some excitement of the day. After a 15-minute struggle, Bonnie has already snapped a full role of 36 exposures and 5 minutes later, the 8-pound fish is onboard. Clive is tired, but ecstatic. They take several photographs of their catch and then release it back Into the sea. Now experts in the art, Clive repeats his feat 4 times and she does it three. Wilber is extremely hospitable and happy that his guests are content, so he shows them the fishing grounds where their luck was even better.

After 5 hours of fun, excitement and a fight with the bonefish, their guide lands them back at the pier where they can't stop remarking about their skills, the good fishing and great experience that bonefishing is. This is another of their fine stories they must boast about to family and friends in Canada.
