In San Pedro, history was made
as well when United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Elsa Paz was elected as the
town's first woman mayor. The UDP also emerged victorious with candidate Manuel
Heredia Jr. elected to serve as Belize Rural South (BRS) Area Representative,
and the UDP taking five of the six seats for San Pedro Town Council. The
newly-elected councilors are: UDP - Severo Guerrero Sr., Joseph Elijio, Juan
Jose Alamilla, Justiniano (Nano) Guerrero, Romel Nesto Gomez, and PUP - Merlene
Spain. Of the 3,712 registered voters, a total of 2,993 (2,521 - San Pedro/472 -
Caye Caulker) or 80.63% of the BRS voters cast their ballots for the candidates
they felt were most qualified and deserving of the opportunity to serve the
residents and visitors to "La Isla Bonita". The following is a list of
candidates and their total votes received.

Congratulations to all of our newly elected officials.
Special mention must be made of the Elections and Boundaries Department, local
volunteers and the San Pedro Police Department who did a wonderful job
throughout the election process.
