On Wednesday, August 10th, 2005, the five Miss San Pedro delegates along with their chaperones took off for a wonderful day trip to Maruba Jungle Resort and Spa. Amarilis Peña, Karina Rejón, Ines Reyes, Norma Leticia Lara and Darling Guevara were all treated to horseback riding, lunch and a grand tour of the Altun Ha Maya ruins. “It all forms a part of the pageant, the girls are getting to know each other prior to pageant night,” commented Press Officer for the San Pedro Town Council, Felix Ayuso.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, Darling Guevara announced on Tuesday, August 16th, 2005, that she will not be able to participate in the pageant. Taking her place will be 14-year-old Chantel Castillo.
Chantel is a second form student currently attending San Pedro High School. In the future, she plans to become a lawyer. Among her many passions, Chantel enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She was motivated to enter the pageant by her mother, Lyndsey Hackston. If she were to win the title, Chantel states, “I would try to help in finding solutions to the crime situation that is currently plaguing our island. These solutions would be in a manner that would prevent anyone from getting hurt.”
The girls are scheduled to make various appearances across Ambergris Caye, including a day’s activities at Captain Morgan’s Retreat. The five beauties have also been invited as special guests of Cora Amalia Castilla Madrid, Municipal President of Othon P. Blanco, Mexico.
The five charming ladies have been graciously sponsored by different businesses as follows: Amarilis Peña – Ramon’s Village Resort, Karina Rejón – Fido’s Restaurant and Bar, Ines Reyes – Jaguar’s Temple NiteClub and Rehab Lounge, Norma Leticia Lara – Victoria House, and Chantel Castillo – Castillo’s Hardware Limited.
