

BTIA calls Extraordinary General Meeting, National President
Asked to Resign

The Board of Directors of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA)
requested that President Murray Arnold resign at a board meeting held on
Wednesday, November 13th. Mr. Arnold refused to do so. The board then called
an extraordinary general meeting, to be held on Saturday, November 23rd at
the Radisson Fort George. At the meeting, the reasons for the resignation
request will be explained and a vote of no confidence will requested. Since
November 13th, a number of meetings have been held by branches of the BTIA,
including one in San Pedro last Monday, November 18th. At the San Pedro
meeting, the local board was asked what plan would go into effect if the no
confidence vote was sucessful. The national board has indicated that 1st
Vice President Wade Bevier, who is from Placencia, would automatically
become president.
