Belize District occupancy rate highest in country, Ambergris # 2.... Tourism statistics- Travel and Hotel Statistics - Second Quarter Summary 1997
Following a trend set in the last few years, a growing market in Belize District has now surpassed Ambergris Caye occupancy rates in 1997. The Belize District occupancy rates reflect a steady business throughout the first half of 1997, while the island continues to reflects its normal seasonal fluctuations. Hotel rates on Ambergris Caye also reflect a slight decrease from 1996. Here are the statistics:
Tourist Arrivals by Air
The number of tourist arrivals by air during the second quarter of
1997 numbered 19,844, representing a 4.1% increase over the second
quarter of 1996. Air arrivals in May and June of this year showed strong
growth over the similar period last year. This brings the number of
tourist arrivals by air for the first six months of 1997 to 48,417. This
represents a 1.4% decrease in the number of air arrivals for the first 6
months of 1997, after a 4.9% decrease in the first quarter and 4.1%
increase in
the second quarter of 1997.

Hotel Statistics
Hotel room revenue reported during the second quarter of 1997 was
BZ$8,225,049.68 representing a 1.6% increase over reported room revenue
for the second quarter of 1996. This brings the total room revenue
reported for the first 6 months of 1997 to BZ$21,612,169.59. Room
revenue reported for the first 6 months 1997 decreased by 1.0% after a
2.6% decrease during the first quarter and a 1.6% increase in the second
quarter.
