, 1970, in Belize City, Ernilda Del
Valle Luciano and Ernesto Williams celebrated the birth of a son, Javier. He was
raised in the city where he attended Holy Redeemer Primary School and St. John's
College and Junior College. A pleasant young man, Javier was very popular and a
role model to his peers. He decided to first try his skills as a sales
representative at his father's company, Belize Air Travel and Belize Air
International, and enjoyed this occupation for the next five years.
In 1991, Javier met his future wife, Velie Paz from San
Pedro Town. The two became instant friends and soon after the friendship
blossomed into love. Velie and Javier became engaged in November of 1992 and one
year later joined their lives in holy matrimony. This union has produced two
wonderful children; Javier Jr. (6) and Alexi (4).
The
young couple resided in Belize City for another year before Javier was inspired
to move to San Pedro. Once in "La Isla Bonita," Javier operated a grocery store
while his wife offered aerobic exercise classes. In an attempt to get back into
the tourism industry, Javier investigated an opportunity at Victoria Resort
where a vacancy existed for an Activities Coordinator. In February of 1996,
Javier was hired for this position and since then he has become an integral part
of this first class resort, arranging tours and keeping guests contented. A
natural when it comes to public relations and customer service, Javier has been
able to please even the most demanding client. In order to enhance and broaden
his skills, Mr. Williams has attended a variety of courses offered locally by
Belize Hotel Association and Belize Institute of Management. Some of the courses
included First Aid/CPR, management, hospitality and even the servicing of dive
regulators. Because of his strong ambition, Javier was chosen as one of the two
Belizeans awarded a scholarship by the Belize Tourism Board to attend a
two-month Tourism Development and Hotel Management course in Israel.
Knowing the important role tourism plays in this country
has kept Javier striving to improve his skills. "The tourism industry has come a
long way," commented Mr. Williams. "It is also a very vulnerable industry. We
need to take good care of it so that we can continue to enjoy the fruit it bears
for us, and to preserve it for future generations. One of the ways to achieve
this is by educating ourselves and improving our services," concluded Javier.
Locally, he is a member of the San Pedro Tourism Committee, a group that is
working to promote the island, both nationally and internationally. In order to
satisfy visitors' needs Javier devotes long hours to work, but he spends one
hundred percent of his spare time enjoying life with his family.
Javier Williams says that moving to San Pedro has brought
him great joy. This island paradise has rightfully provided Mr. Williams with a
home, a family, friends and a comfortable job. He is grateful to have been
blessed with these gifts and to be able to share them with the visitors who come
to enjoy one of "Mother Nature's Best Kept Secrets" and the people of "Our
Community."
