Under a beautiful full moon, more than 65 people attended the festivities. Colorful flowers and tropical décor adorned the venue as party goers were welcomed with a Hawaiian lei and a fresh flower for the ladies. The tables were decorated in crisp white linens with decorative flower center pieces. Live music from the Steel Band filled the air as Miss Lobster Fest 2005 contestants mingled with the crowd.

    Gourmet appetizers and dinner, prepared by Habaneros Restaurant, were enjoyed by all. People had the choice of a delicious chicken or fish entrée, and the delectable dessert was served by the Rainbow Grill and Bar where the event was held. During the evening the crowd was entertainment by a brilliant dance performance by the San Pedro Dancers, who traveled from Ambergris Caye just for the event. The dance troop was transported to Caye Caulker by the fine folks at the Amigos del Mar Dive Shop.

    The highlight of the evening was the “sashing” of the 2005 contestants. Mistress of Ceremonies, and past Miss Lobster Fest Seleny Villanueva introduced the lovely contestants, Miss Marleny Heredia, Miss Anna Nunez, Miss Elisia Hinks, and Miss Shandy Garnett. With the assistance of reigning Miss Lobster Fest Miss Chantel Marin, and the first ever Miss Lobster Fest, Vainina Sosa, the ladies were decorated with their official contestant sashes. There was also an unveiling of the queen’s crown, which the 2005 Miss Lobster Fest will have the honor of wearing. The evening was complete with the breaking of a piñata.

    The Miss Lobster Fest committee would like to thank the key sponsors, Habaneros Restaurant and Rainbow Grill and Bar for providing excellent food, staff assistance and a venue. Others who were instrumental in making the night a success were Pamela Braun for creating a beautiful painted backdrop and Alberto Villanueva Sr. for transporting the Steel Band.

    Net proceeds from the event will be divided amongst the four contestants and be applied towards the cost of the Miss Lobster Fest Pageant. The folks from “La Isla Cariñosa” invite their island neighbors and the mainland residents to join in the Lobster Fest Festivities the weekend of July 1st.
