This picture was taken on a regular weekday, Thursday to be more accurate, on Middle Street, as Pescador Drive is known. It was taken during the lunch hour and it is a scene that is becoming more and more familiar. Driving to or from work, home or school is met with a long line of other commuters. A traffic jam! One not seen in San Pedro years before. So, do we or don’t we have enough vehicles on the island?

The results of the Vehicle Survey carried out by the Ambergris Caye Traffic Department reveals that in our little island, spanning between 20-25 miles in length from tip to tip, there are 1,573 vehicles. Whether they may be golf carts or motorcycles, trucks or taxis, the numbers are outstanding. Especially since out of that 25 mile stretch, San Pedro Town is comprised of anywhere from seven to eight miles.
