Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)
Michael Gutierrez has officially been handed over the duties as head of
the San Pedro Police Department. As reported in last week's edition of
the San Pedro Sun, ASP Gutierrez
replaces ASP Rudolph Orio who has been transferred to Mango Creek in the
southern part of Belize. At the time of ASP Gutierrez's transfer he was
serving as the Officer/Commander of the Intermediate Southern Formation,
headquartered in Independence. ASP Gutierrez has previously served the
community of San Pedro. On July
15th, 1997, he was
appointed as Officer in Charge of the island until July
31st, 1998, when he
handed over his position to ASP Orio.
ASP Gutierrez is originally from Dangriga and has been
with the police force for twenty-three years. His family consists of a
wife and five lovely children. In an interview with the
San Pedro Sun, ASP Gutierrez commented,
"What I hope to accomplish in San Pedro is to ensure the environment's
safety. This will be conducive to all aspects of security so as to
protect, secure and enhance the industry. I want to also ensure that
honest law abiding citizens can go about their day-to-day business
without hindrance and obstruction. I believe this can be achieved with
motivated mechanisms. First of all by preventing the commission of
crime." When asked about his views on San Pedro he replied, "I cannot
shed much light on this since I have recently arrived on the island. What
I can say is that there is a lot of improvements in the infrastructure
and the development seems to be much greater than the last time I was
here."
The San Pedro
Sun welcomes ASP Michael Gutierrez to San Pedro and
commits its resources to help battle crime.
